Baby zebra latest success in zoo partnership

The recent birth of a female Grevy’s zebra foal at the Saint Louis Zoo marks another milestone in a long-running WUSTL research partnership that is making significant contributions to the preservation of Grevy’s zebra and the equally endangered African wild ass.

More efforts should be directed at promoting interventions that could prevent multiple chronic diseases and extend healthy lifespans, say School of Medicine researchers. They write in Nature that economic incentives in biomedical research and health care reward treating disease more than promoting health.

Study: Birth weight, breastfeeding affect children’s health decades later

Young adults who were breastfed for three months or more as babies have a significantly lower risk of chronic inflammation associated with cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, according to research from the Brown School’s Molly Metzger, PhD.
